A Fine Frenzy

It's : a Solo Band
Genre :
Shoegaze/Alternative
Hometown :
Seattle, Washington
Formed in :
2006
Who :
Alison Sudol (Born in December 23th 1983)
Start Her Career at : The age of 18 under a band named Monro. Before then writes her own music for "A Fine Frenzy." Sudol had a passion for literature, and immersed herself in the works of C. S. Lewis, E.B. White, Lewis Carroll, Anthony Trollope and Charles Dickens. She became an author in her own right, and after teaching herself to play the piano, began putting her creative energy into writing songs.

Catching Point : Her artist name, "A Fine Frenzy", is taken from a verse in William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. While Sudol is in some ways a private person, she has developed a reputation for accessibility and friendliness, and she regularly talks with fans after her shows. She's even among first artist to regularly use twitter, long before twitter is hip. It's also unique how she picked her album title from one of her song's lyrics. So far Sudol's music has been featured multiple times on the television series House. The song "Whisper" was heard during the episode "Joy to the World", and the song "Hope for the Hopeless" has been in three episodes: "Act Your Age", "Human Error" and "Airborne". "Hope for the Hopeless" was also featured in the Defying Gravity episode "Natural Selection." Overall, her songs are atmospheric, somehow fragile and ethereal, and utterly haunting.

Amelie [OST]

It's : a Soundtrack
Genre :
Classic/Instrument/Pop/French

When :  2001
Who :
Yann Tiersen; Michael Nyman

Catching Point : Released as Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain in France, director Jean-Pierre Jeunet chanced upon the largely accordion and piano driven music of Yann Tiersen while driving with his production assistant who put on a CD he hadn't heard before. Greatly impressed, he immediately bought Tiersen's entire catalogue and eventually commissioned him to compose pieces for the film, then he is also primarily considering composer Michael Nyman to score the film. Amelie is a likeable girl who develops an ambition to help others. The question is whether she is willing to face her own problems. The music of the soundtrack does much to enhance the movie, the mood moving on a spectrum between melancholy and carefree, but even the sadder emotions are tinged with a kind of Gallic acceptance, "C'est La Vie!". In the end, both The Movie & The Soundtrack are illuminating mix of magic and pragmatism.

Into The Wild [OST]

It's : a Soundtrack
Genre :
Indie-folk/Indie-rock

When : 2007
Who :
Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam's Lead Vocal)

Catching Point : The movie based on a true story about a disillusioned twenty-something named Christopher McCandless dropped out of society, hitched cross-country and perished in the Alaskan wilderness. Basically tells about free-spirit. Being free from all that boundaries, that buildings and rules under something called society. so the music tells about the same. Eddie speaks about being indie, tossing his weighty baritone onto earthy, folky tracks that temper the romance of absolute freedom with an eerie foreboding. Sometimes it all so gloomy but also very honest. "Into the Wild" is where this album gonna take us to. And Eddie Vedder is...well, Eddie Vedder :)

Husky Rescue

It's : a Band
Genre :
ambient pop; fragile folk/cinematic moods/up-tempo rock
Hometown :
Helsinki, Finland
Formed in :
2002
Members :
  • Marko Nyberg (bass guitar)
  • Reeta-Leena Korhola (vocals)
  • Ville Riippa (keyboard)
  • Anssi Sopanen (drums)
  • Miika Colliander (guitar)

Catching Point : Every track is designed to be a warm breeze to counter the chill of daily life, whether you live in cold climes or not. It's melancholic music but there is always hope. some musical tales that open doors to other worlds with no specific destination or conclusion in mind. no a tale that start and end in the real world. Husky Rescue's music is like the first snow on the ground when you can still see the green grass through the snow. It's like spring's sunbeam after the long, dark, sunless winter time. Or a glints of paradise behind the dark cloud of modern life. So their music is quite representing their hometown Helsinki. If you ever watch Hyundai's "Think About It" advertisements, their single, "My World" was used there. and another one, "New Light of Tomorrow" was used in a P&O TV commercial.

She & Him

It's : a band
Genre :
indiefolk/vintage
Hometown :
Portland, Oregon & LA, California USA
Formed in :
2006
Members :

  • Zooey Deschanel (vocals, piano, banjo)
  • M. Ward (guitar, production)

C
atching Point :
SHE is a well-known actress with swings smoky voice once asked to do a soundtrack duet with HIM on a movie called The Go-Getters. Just right after, they found a unique interest among each other and built the band with Zooey's self-wroten songs and Ward's
unique arrangements and virtuostic guitar playing. The pair originally collaborated via e-mail, with Ward working out of his Portland, Oregon studio and Deschanel in her Los Angeles, California home. At March, 18th 2008, Volume 1 was released. No doubt, the album mostly bears a bold taste upon vintage and oldies music but also fill with modern indiefolk ambience.

Yes Man [OST]

It's : a Soundtrack
Genre :
Electronic/Indiepop

When : 2008
Who:
Eels; Munchausen by Proxy

Catching Point : The Movie itself tells about being social, do whatever you want, stop being afraid and start having fun. Free-spirited young girl & a denial man, that's Yes Man. The album, however, contain 9 tracks by Eels & 4 tracks by a fictional 80's-homage-esque band called Munchausen by Proxy, who feature in the film, with Zooey Deschanel as a lead while the rest of the band is comprised by real-life synth-pop group Von Iva. All musical scene in this album performed by Munchausen by Proxy, who spare a dirty electronic, "talk-singing" like ambiance. And Eels wrap it nicely with their unique classical indie.

Asobi Seksu

It's : a band
Genre : phsycedelic/trance/pop/indie/shoegaze
Hometown : New York, US
Formed in : Originally known as Sportfuck (2001), they changed their name to Asobi Seksu (casual/playful sex) and release their full-length album in 2004
Members :
  • Yuki Chikudate (singing|vocals)
  • James Hanna (guitar, vocals)
  • Haji (bass guitar|bass)
  • Ben Shapiro (drum kit|drums)

Catching Point : First i had my ears on them, i just can't help but to fall immediately. Asobi Seksu is fun, sexy and just utterly hard to forget. Yuki's translucent voice might remind us of other Japanese bands out there but this ambience sure leave it's own signature. Their sound has been said to drawn influence from the shoegazing movement of the late 1980s to early 1990s, which was coined to describe the textured and effects-heavy sound of alternative rock in that era. Though full with sad and melodramatic lyrics, the sound's fun and all candy. What's unique is we'll never find songtitle's word inside the lyrics. They always kinda put on title that fit the song's ambiance and theme instead of cutting it from the lyrics. Listen to it once and you'll definitely crave for another!
